Recollect FAQs
Our recollection and re-testing process can occur for a number of reasons, including sample quality at collection, damage during transport to the lab, insufficient DNA provided on the swab, or failure to pass quality control checks at the lab.
This means we have to start the whole process again from scratch, including the collection of a new sample, transport back to the laboratory, and re-running all laboratory steps for the new sample.

Why do I need to recollect my carrier screening sample?
Recollection of samples is rare and could be required for a number of reasons.
If we have requested to recollect your sample, it means we were unable to obtain enough quality DNA to pass our quality control standards. This is rare, but could be caused by not swabbing for long enough, eating too close to swabbing, smoking / vaping close to swabbing or an excess of cellular contaminants that impact the DNA quality.
What could have caused the need for a recollection of my sample?
Unfortunately on occasion testing can fail due to DNA quality or quantity. To prevent this from occurring again, please swab both cheeks for a full 30 - 60 seconds each, this will help to ensure that enough DNA is collected.
Additionally, avoid eating food such as pineapple or citrus on the day of the swab, foods like these may degrade the DNA and reduce its quality.
